A new board of The Icelandic BDSM organization was elected at the General Meeting on the 18th of March. The board has convened and set an agenda for the operating year 2023-2024, or until the General Meeting in March 2024. During this period, the board intends to focus on these areas:
- The Icelandic BDSM organization will hold regular events. The goal is to host at least 11 events. A schedule should be announced well in advance and be ready and presented for the summer and winter semesters, i.e. the period from the beginning of summer until the autumn meeting, and then from the autumn meeting until the General Meeting.
- We will start the work to standardize the core courses. These are the courses we want to be able to offer regularly, preferable twice a year each. For example BDSM 101, impact play and bondage lectures.
- Continued emphasis on the webpage. We will continue to improve accessibility to the site by translating most of the existing content to English, and our long term goal is to publish all content on the site in both Icelandic and English.
- Visibility on social media. We want to continue putting emphasis on regular posts on Facebook and FetLife. We will look into what options there are for posting on other social media and whether we should increase our visibility there. The content we post should reflect what is going on in the community. We will share events and other materials from our partners at their request.
- Membership benefits. We have already started seeking out membership discounts that could be useful for our organizational members. We will share further information on this on our website and through our mailing list.
- Seminar on abuse in the context of BDSM. The board aims to host a seminar in the autumn where the central topic of discussion will be abuse and how the BDSM-community should respond to it. We hope the resulting discussion will contribute to the creation of organizational processes for treating cases of abuse and possibly implement a guiding ethical standard for the organization and related parties.
- Almannahagsmunafélag (social welfare nonprofit). We will research whether it makes sense for the organization to become a recognized non-profit, with the added legal requirements that this entails.
